Alfa Matrix sorgte dieses Jahr allerorts für Überraschung, als es die DARKNESS ON DEMAND-Singles „Hang on“ und „Female grace“ veröffentlichte. Später folgte noch die exklusive EP „Final way“. Das belgische Label ist schon lange dafür bekannt, Musiker aus der guten alten Electro-Szene der 80/90er Jahre in ihren Katalog aufzunehmen. Die Berliner Jungs Wagner und Falgalas waren damals mit DANCE OR DIE das Flaggschiff des Kult-Labels MACHINERY RECORDS und wurden als eine der ersten Bands bekannt, welche eine Brücke zwischen EBM/Industrial und Cold Wave/Gothic schlugen. Seit 2017 setzen sie diesen Weg nun unter dem Namen DARKNESS ON DEMAND (mit dem gleichen DOD-Akronym) fort und verschmelzen auf intelligente Weise stimmungsvolle, melodische Elektronik mit knalligem, ausdrucksstarkem Gesang und frontalen EBM-Anschlägen. Der inhaltliche Fokus liegt dabei auf Science Fiction-Themen, aber auch den großen Problemen unserer Gesellschaft. Im September 2023 erscheint nun DODs drittes Studioalbum, welches treffend „Digital outcast“ betitelt wurde. Ein Ruf nach Freiheit des künstlerischen Ausdrucks, welcher die autokratischen Regime sowie die Manipulation der Massenmedien und sämtliche damit verbundene Einschränkungen kritisiert. Diese gesellschaftlichen Auswüchse erinnern uns daran, wie prophetisch einst die dystopischen SciFi-Novellen „Schöne neue Welt“ oder „1984“ waren. Wagner erläutert dazu: „Unser neues Album „Digital outcast“ stellt eine Einladung dar, sich wieder mit der Natur sowie der Realität zu verbinden und der digitalen Welt mit ihrer künstlichen Social Media und all dem Kreditkartenkonsum zu entfliehen. Unsere Welt hat so viel mehr zu bieten!“ Zwischen klassischem Dark-Electro und moderner EBM komponieren DARKNESS ON DEMAND Club-Tracks mit süchtig machenden, düsteren und gefühlvollen Melodien, hämmernden Beats, schneidenden Sequenzen und Wagners unverwechselbaren, charismatischen Stimme. „Digital outcast“ bietet eine farbenfrohe Klangpalette, die von ausdrucksstarken Mid-Tempotracks wie „Flowers“, „Hang on“ oder dem herzerweichenden „Tragedy“ bis hin zu Dancefloor-Krachern wie „Female grace“, „Last attack“, „Reactor 4“ und „Ban of truth“ reicht. Dazwischen finden sich Dark Electro-Perlen wie „Skygazer“ oder „White clouds“. DARKNESS ON DEMAND gehen keine Kompromisse ein und biedern sich keinem Trend an. Sie äußern laut ihre kritischen Gedanken und Ansichten und fokussieren ihre kreative Energie auf das Verfeinern ihres typischen Stils, was sie am Ende so authentisch innerhalb der Dark Electro-Szene macht.  

Alfa Matrix surprised everyone this year with the release of DARKNESS ON DEMAND’s last singles “Hang On” and “Female Grace” later followed by the exclusive EP “Final Way”.The Belgian label is indeed well known to welcome cult musicians from the good old late 80’s dark electronic scene to their label roster! Back in the days, the Berlin boys Wagner and Falgalas inaugurated the repertoire of now cult label Machinery Records as members of the DANCE OR DIE flagship that was often described as the first band building the bridge between EBM industrial and cold wave gothic music, between FRONT 242 and SISTERS OF MERCY…Since 2017, they continue intelligently merging moody melodic electronics, dark poignant expressive vocals and upbeat frontal EBM industrial assaults under the DARKNESS ON DEMAND moniker (with the same DOD acronym) with a strong and engaged lyrical focus bridging science fiction themes with major issues of our current society.In September 2023, comes DARKNESS ON DEMAND’s 3rd full length studio album aptly titled “Digital Outcast”, a major call for freedom of art & expression, heavily criticizing autocratic regimes, mass-media manipulations, freedom restrictions and all other excesses of our society reminding us how prophetic dystopian social science fiction novels like “Brave New World” or “1984” were…Like Wagner explains it: “Our new album “Digital Outcast” is an invitation to reconnect with nature and reality, to escape from that digital world dominated by artificial social medias and credit card consumption. Our world has so much more to offer!”.Between classic dark electro and modern EBM, DARKNESS ON DEMAND compose highly melodic club electro tracks with addictive sinister soulful melodies, hammering beats, incisive synth sequences and Wagner’s unique poignant charismatic vocals. “Digital Outcast” is a colorful sonic palette offering so much diversity leading us through highly expressive mid tempo dark synth pop songs like “Flowers”, “Hang On” or yet the heartbreaking “Tragedy”, but also more frontal dancefloor EBM industrial assaults like “Female Grace”, “Last Attack”, “Reactor 4” and “Ban Of Truth” through captivating dark elektro pearls like “Skygazer” or “White Clouds”.DARKNESS ON DEMAND are renowned for making no compromise to any music trend, for shouting out loud their critical ideas and point of views without any restriction.
